Thesis Title: De strijd voor rhetorica. Poëtica en positie van rederijkers in Vlaanderen, Brabant, Zeeland en Holland tussen 1450 en 1620. Amsterdam, Amsterdam University Press, 2001.
About
I am a scholar of early modern Dutch literature at VU University Amsterdam, studying the manuscript circulation of texts, the interaction between manuscript and print, social authorship and coterie reading. I am primarily interested in the ways manuscript texts are being collected and shared among readers.
* Research *
In 2008 I concluded a research project on ‘The dynamics of poetics. Socio-cultural dimensions of early modern manuscript miscellanies and printed anthologies in the Netherlands’. This was funded by the Dutch Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) through a VENI Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at VU University Amsterdam.
Future research plans include a diachronic and multimedia cross over, comparing the ways digital texts and photos are shared, appropriated and reused on the internet to the ways texts and images were shared, appropriated and reused in manuscript and print in early modern times. Focal points in this research will be issues of authorship and ownership, creating and recreating, media and remediation, selecting and collecting, sharing and appropriating. Creative, social and economic-legal aspects will be taken into account.
Previously I have published on late medieval and early modern poetic theory, on women writers and on the reception of Portuguese and Spanish literature in the Netherlands.
